How to Review Animation Frame by Frame

Review poses, timing and motion arcs one frame at a time with a repeatable annotation workflow.

Animation feedback is hard to communicate with a timecode alone. A pose problem can last one frame; a spacing problem only appears across several.

Start with a playback pass

Watch at normal speed and note the moments that feel wrong. Then pause and step through the surrounding frames. Check the key pose, the breakdowns and the spacing between them before deciding what to ask for.

Draw the intended correction

Sketch a silhouette or line of action on the frame that best explains the change. Use onion skin to compare neighbouring frames. For a motion arc, add points across frames with Framink's motion path tool rather than trying to describe the trajectory in prose.

Give an artist a testable request

Say “Keep the hand above this line through frames 18–22,” not “Improve the hand.” Revisit the affected frames after the retake and mark it done when the change works in motion. See animation review.
